How to get there

Iasi is located in the North East of Romania.
There are a number of different travel options available to get to Iasi - by plane, by car, by train, by bus.

Iasi International Airport

Airport → venue:

  • If you require a taxi to travel to and from the venue the recommended companies are: Lux taxi, Euro taxi.
    We advise booking taxi requirements in advance if possible.
    The travel time is around 20–25 minutes, depending on traffic.
    The estimated cost is about 30–40 RON with a licensed taxi or a ridesharing service
  • Bolt and Uber are available
  • By public transport: the main option is Bus 50 which is the dedicated airport bus and runs in both directions. The trip typically takes 15–20 minutes, depending on traffic.
    The bus connects Iași Railway Station (Gara) - Piața Unirii - Târgu Cucu - Iași Airport.
    You can buy your public transport ticket using the 24Pay app, available for mobile payments.

About Iasi

Iași is one of the most important cities in Romania, located in the northeastern part of the country, in the historical region of Moldavia. It is known as the "City of the Seven Hills" because of its landscape, similar to Rome. It was first mentioned in historical documents in 1408.

Some of the most famous places in Iași include:

  • Palace of Culture – the symbol of the city and one of Romania’s most impressive historic buildings.
  • Iasi National Theatre - one of the oldest and most beautiful theatres in Romania, famous for its elegant interior design
  • "Anastasie Fătu" Botanical Garden – the oldest botanical garden in Romania. It was founded in 1856 by the Romanian physician and naturalist Anastasie Fătu.
  • Metropolitan Cathedral of Iași - the second largest Orthodox cathedral in Romania and an important religious landmark. It is famous for the relics of Saint Parascheva, which attract thousands of pilgrims every year.
  • Three Hierarchs Monastery – a remarkable 17th-century architectural monument.
  • Bojdeuca lui Ion Creangă – the memorial house of the famous Romanian writer Ion Creangă.

Currency

  • The official currency is the Romanian leu (RON); the plural form is lei.
  • Romania is a member of the European Union, but it does not use the euro.
    Prices are normally displayed in lei (RON).
  • Credit and debit cards are widely accepted in Iași, contactless payments (tap-to-pay) are very common.
  • It is useful to carry some cash, especially for: small shops; local markets; taxis that may not accept cards. ATMs are widely available throughout the city.

Visa

Participants who are not citizens of the European Union and who need a visa to enter Romania may contact the Organising Committee for an official invitation letter after completing their registration.

Weather

  • The weather in Iași during September is usually pleasant, as it is the transition period between summer and autumn.
  • In early September the weather often feels like late summer. Days can still reach 25–28°C (77–82°F).
  • The weather is good for walking, sightseeing, and outdoor cafés.
